报告题目:Studying degradation and failure of Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) with Characterisation of TBCs
报告内容
Thermal barrier coatings have been studied extensively for decades and many studies have been carried out with purpose of extending the lifetime of TBCs in service, however, the degradation and failure mechanisms of TBCs during and after being exposed to high temperature environments are still under debate. In this talk, I would like to present the TBC characterisation study which has been carried out in University of Manchester for more than a decade, and the study has been carried out with close collaboration between the researchers in University of Manchester, academic and industrial collaborators worldwide. The characterisation study has been focused on 1) non-destructive evaluation of TBCs with use of impedance spectroscopy and X-ray tomography, 2) measurements of the residual stresses in TBCs with use of Raman/fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and synchrotron X-ray beam, 3) measurements of the coating/substrate adhesion with use of the strain to failure method and four point bending method, 4) Measurement of Sulphur distribution in TBCs to understand its effect on failure of TBCs. It has been concluded that to understand the degradation and failure mechanisms of TBCs, multiple characterisation techniques should be used while both studies on manufacture and characterisation of TBCs are essential.
