From August 17 to 19, 2026, the 4th National College Student "Mechanics + X" Innovative Practice Seminar was held at the China Western Sci-Tech Innovation Harbor of Xi'an Jiaotong University. Guided by the Educational Affairs Committee of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the seminar was hosted by the School Of Aerospace Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University and co-organized by Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Dalian University of Technology. Over 130 faculty and student representatives from 22 universities attended, and 42 outstanding projects were selected for the final competition through prior review. The opening ceremony on August 18 featured remarks by Professor Chen Changqing (Tsinghua University), Professor Sheng Shengping (Dean of School Of Aerospace Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University), and Mr. Zhang Zibing, with the session chaired by Professor Xu Guangkui. Invited reports by Professors Chen Changqing and Yu Wenshan presented cultivation models for top-notch mechanics talents at Tsinghua and Xi'an Jiaotong universities, covering curriculum development, undergraduate research training, and innovative practice systems.

The seminar was structured into two tracks—Basic Research and Applied Practice—each divided into two groups. The 42 projects addressed advanced materials and structures, aerospace, biomedicine, smart sensing, vibration control, fluid mechanics, and AI/data-driven mechanics, demonstrating cross-disciplinary integration with materials science, information technology, life sciences, and engineering. On the morning of August 18, teams delivered on-site presentations covering research background, scientific questions, technical approaches, and key findings, with interactive Q&A and feedback from expert reviewers on methodology and innovation. In the afternoon, each team conducted oral defense sessions via PPT presentations, presenting research processes, innovative methods, and practical outcomes, followed by expert questioning. Eight teams advanced to the finals on the morning of August 19.

Following project exhibitions, defense sessions, a final competition round, and comprehensive expert evaluation, the seminar awarded 3 Grand Prizes, 5 First Prizes, 14 Second Prizes, and 20 Third Prizes, along with several Outstanding Mentor and Outstanding Organization awards. The event effectively promoted interdisciplinary integration and collaborative innovation across fields.
