Introduction to the SVL
TheState Key Laboratory for Mechanical Structural Strength and Vibration(SVL)was granted to establish by the National Planning Committee early in 1985. It was re-approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology to establish in 2011 and passed the state examination in 2014.
The laboratory focuses on the challenging mechanical problems involving key equipment, national defense and inter-disciplines, and is dedicated to the development of new theories, new methods and new technologies. The main research concerns include: Strength theories and failure mechanisms of solids; Lightweight-multifunctional design of structures; Vibration and acoustics of equipment under complex service environments; Vibration and control of electromechanical system.
The laboratory has 58 researchers. Among them, there are 5 times Chief Scientists of National Basic Research Program of China (973 Project), 5 winners of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, 5 Yangtze Scholarship professors, and 3 Thousand Talents Program Scholars. In addition, an Innovative Research Group of NSFC (two phases), two Innovative Research Team of the Ministry of Education, a research team supported by the National 111 Intellectuals Exchange Project (two phases)and the special district called International Center of Applied Mechanics are based on the laboratory. In addition, four journals are hosted, including Chinese Journal of Applied Mechanics and three English journals likeIJAM, IJALS and IJCMSE. Four second national prizes for Natural Science were individually earned and over 1,000 research papers have been published in recent five years.
The laboratory is located at the heart of the University, accommodated with over14,000m2and with many experimental apparatuses and equipment worth more than 120 million RMB for research uses.
The laboratory has long-term close collaborations with the world top universities and institutions from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan.
